The Cherokee Patriot is a publication of the not for profit Society for Peaceful Advancement of Community Engagement of Cherokee County, North Carolina, USA — or SPACE-CCNC.
Our mission is to contribute daily in significant ways to the enrichment of our community home. We intend to do so while adhering to fair and open journalism standards which we will set out more fully on this page in the future.
As journalists we believe in truth and its opposite, dishonesty and all its manifestations: deception, bullshit, misrepresentations, misinformation, fabrications, falsifications, prevarications, and other forms of nonsense.
Our tasks as journalists are to seek the truth and convey what we find to our audience with the goal of helping readers understand our community. We recognize that the policies set out here are broad principles, and we will often encounter gray areas or competing principles as do all of us seeking to live a noble life.
Accuracy is the foundation of a news organ’s credibility, so checking our facts is a fundamental responsibility. It is our policy to correct errors, large and small, as soon as we become aware of them. Any question about the accuracy or fairness of a published article will be investigated promptly.
